Today is the Day!

If you have not already done so, today is the day to get to the polls
and let your voice be heard. Whatever happens today, this election
will be one of those historic elections that people will read about
for years to come. Do your part and exercise your right to vote!

If you do not know where your polling place is, you can check one of
the locators below.

Google's polling place locator (complete with maps):
http://maps. google.com/ vote

Vote411's polling place locator:
http://www.vote411. org/pollingplace bystate.php

GoVote locator: http://govote. org/

If you cannot find your polling place by any of these methods, check
with your country clerk or local board of elections. They can tell you
where you need to go!

Remember to take a photo ID and your voter registration card with you
to the polls just in case you need it. In some states, identification
is requested for those voting for the first time or voting after
having made changes to their registration. In others, identification
is required.

If you get to your polling place and are told you aren't eligible to
vote... ask for a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot is used
to record your vote if any questions should arise about eligibility.
Once election officials are able to check your eligibility, the
provisional ballot will be counted (if you are eligible to vote). If
you do cast a provisional ballot, you may want to check your state
guidelines to see if you will be required to do anything further once
the ballot is in. In some states, for instance, if you cast a
provisional ballot and do not provide proof of identity, you may be
required to provide that proof within a specific amount of time in
order for your ballot to be cast. Check with the Secretary of State
for more information on that!

Can You Smell It?!

Election season approaches. Can you smell it? Are you ready?

If you have not yet registered to vote, it may not be too late! You can check your state voter registration deadlines at: http://www.declareyourself.com/voting_faq/state_by_state_info_2.html

Already registered? You might want to consider early voting or absentee voting if you aren't sure you will be able to make it to the polls on election day! The Early Voting Information Center has a list of states that allow early and absentee voting as well as information about the state statutes allowing such. You can view their information at: http://earlyvoting.net/states/abslaws.php
You can also call your county clerk to find out when early voting opens in your state or to learn more about absentee voting.

If you're still undecided on the candidates, don't forget to tune into the presidential debates on September 26, October 2, October 7 and October 15. The debates begin at 9pm EST and last for 90 minutes. You can check out the debates on major broadcast networks (such as NBC or ABC) as well as on cable news outlets!

Remember, there is no excuse for apathy!

Pagans, like all Americans, are watching coverage of the Democratic and Republican conventions this week. Barak Obama has announced that Delaware Senator Joe Biden will be his choice for Vice President. John McCain has chosen Alaska governor, Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice President.

Both candidates have platforms that they believe, if implemented, will make America a stronger nation. And, like all Americans, Pagans are divided on both the issues and the candidates they support. One thing however, that we as Americans and as Pagans must not be divided on, is the importance of voting this November.

The Pagan Unity Campaign would like to encourage Pagans across the nation to educate themselves on both the candidates and the issues and then put that information to work and VOTE on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

94 Days and Counting!

In 94 days, we will once again head to the polls to vote for our next president, our representatives, our senators and our governors (in some areas). We will also be casting votes for countless local and state offices and issues. If you haven't already begun researching candidates, platforms and issues, now is the time to do so. Below you will find links to get your research started. I hope it comes in handy and that you put it to good use.

There is no excuse for going to the polls uninformed or for not going at all. There are options and there are alternatives. .. it's up to you to decide what you're willing to support and what you aren't. I hope you'll take some time over the coming months and put a little effort into deciding where you stand and who is deserving of your vote.

And remember, a single vote can make a difference. It's happened before and it will, undoubtedly, happen in the future.

I Am Campaign 2008

From: Pagan Unity Campaign
Subject: I Am Campaign
Date: May 15, 2008
Contact: Ginger Strivelli (empressginger@charter.net), Fallon Glenn (fallon_glenn@yahoo.com)
http://www.paganunitycampaign.org

Seven years ago the Pagan Unity Campaign began what has, for many, become an annual tradition. We gathered our post cards and set to work reminding elected officials that the United States is home to some of the most diverse groups of people around; and Pagan Americans are one of those groups. With one simple line, 'I Am a Pagan _____,' we reminded elected officials in all 50 states that this is truly a nation of religious diversity and that we expect them to work to preserve that diversity and the importance religious beliefs of every stripe hold to the American people.

As Pagans, our religious beliefs hold a special place in our lives, but our religious beliefs are not the only thing by which we may be defined. We are teachers, we are parents, we are students, we are lawyers... and we are everything between. And just as importantly, we vote.

It is once again time to take up the charge and remind elected officials that we are American, we are here and that we not only pay attention, but that we are proactive in addressing issues of religious tolerance.

The Pagan Unity Campaign would like to encourage the Pagan community to get involved during this important election year and send in post-cards to current elected officials at the local, state and federal level in addition to those who are running for office. Your post cards should say "I am a Pagan ______" (as always, that blank can be anything you wish it to be) and should be mailed during the week of the Summer Solstice. The rest of the details are up to you.
